London (IoK News) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday once again raised the Kashmir issue during his address to world leaders at the high-level UN General Assembly session.
“India and Pakistan, after having established their sovereignty and independence 75 years ago, still haven’t established peace and solidarity between one another. This is much unfortunate. We hope and pray that a fair and permanent peace and prosperity will be established in Kashmir,” he said.
In recent years, the Turkish leader has referred to the Kashmir issue in his addresses to world leaders at high-level meetings of the UN General Assembly, which has led to strained relations between India and Turkey.
India has in the past termed his remarks as “totally unacceptable”, saying that Turkey should learn to respect the sovereignty of other nations and think more deeply about its own policies.

The member states of the United Nations General Assembly in 2005 unanimously adopted the resolution on Responsibility to Protect (R2P) to save citizens from genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity.
Since adoption, the norm has been invoked in Libya, South Sudan, Yemen, andSyria, nonetheless, the UN refrains to respond to the genocide committed in the Jammu & Kashmir and triggering a greater sense of anxiety.
Also last year, Erdogan in his pre-recorded video statement to the general debate made reference to Jammu and Kashmir.
India called it “totally unacceptable” at the time, saying Turkey should learn to respect the sovereignty of other nations and think more deeply about its own policies.
Erdogan, in his address to Tuesday’s general debate, said: “We maintain our position in favour of resolving the problem that has persisted in Kashmir for 74 years, through dialogue between the parties and within the framework of the relevant United Nations resolutions.” .
